Ken Nimmer gave his presentation. He told the Parks, Recreation and ,
Environmental Commission that he hopes to have a document for them to review
by July I". Met Council has been very cooperative and the Community
Development Department is working on funding for the clean-up. Once the City
has confirmed this, it will be sent to other agencies. A CD will be available of th~
eastern and western portions. There will be a lot of technical information available
on the CD.

Ken wants to make sure that the Commission's concerns regarding trails are
heard. A draft is available at this time. A meeting with Met Council is scheduled
on June 14 to get clarification on piping issues.

Sandy thanked Commissioner Samuelson for her work while in office as State
Representative, for helping to get $1 million to help move the railroad line.

VI. New Business

A. Trails Meeting Update - Tom Trevorrow
B. Staff Report - Brad Martens
Brad Martens updated the Commission on the Safe Routes to Schools, Trails
Committee, FSC Lighting upgrade and the all night parties.

The Safe Routes to School project will be about a 2 year process. There will be
infra-structure and non-infrastructure improvements. We received a grant from
MNDOT with a K-8 grade focus. The grant was for $175,000.

Plans for the Silver Lake Road bridge include removal of chain link fence, with a
cement wall to replace the fence. We want to have a friendly feel to the walkways.
We would like lighting on the south side and make the pork chop island bigger.
North side improvements will depend on Brighton Village development.

Suggestions were to get art groups involved and request corporate donations. Start
looking now so we do not have to dip into City funds.

Inquiry was made if Park Dedication funds would be available for this. Council
Liaison Burg felt it would be the perfect use of money.

There was a comment that many walkways now are covered. Also, it was noted
that vandalism seems to be on the rise.

Graffiti along the noise wall (Pike Lake Trail) is being cleaned up by a New
Brighton resident. He was given supplies and will clean it up whenever it
happens.

A suggestion was offered to ask API what they would like for trails around their
building.

The Trails Committee discussed the Brighton Village and NW Quadrant areas A
took resident comments.

Page 2
