August 14, 1979 <br />City of New Brighton <br />Fritz Harcus, 1620 Sioux Blvd., spoke in opposition to <br />moving the western entrance to Hansen Park to 16th Avenue. <br />She stated she concurred with the skating area as proposed <br />and suggested picnic areas should be expanded in the southern <br />area of the park. <br />The Director of Public Works reviewed cost estimates in <br />regard to the two alternatives for western entrance into <br />Hansen Park. <br />The Council in considering the redevelopment plan for <br />Hansen Park discussed a number of items pertaining to the <br />plan including: The relocation of the westerly entrance <br />to the park; drainage in the northwestern area of the park; <br />additional parking lots in -the area of 7th Street and also <br />County Road "E". location of .proposed picnic facilities; <br />possibility of relocating free skating area in the area <br />of the tennis courts; proposed landscaping around the <br />playground facilities; and the proposed practice soccer <br />field. - <br />Motion by Blomquist, seconded by Benke to approve that <br />portion of the Hansen Park redevelopment plan generally <br />east and north of County Ditch #2 with the provision that <br />the 5th Street and 13th Avenue proposed parking lot be <br />increased from 40 to 60 parking spaces and moved as far <br />south as soil conditions will permit. <br />Motion by Senden to amend the motion to provide for further <br />study and consideration of the proposed parking lot by <br />reorienting the soccer field to allow parking closer to <br />the soft ball fields. <br />Motion died for lack of second. <br />Vote on main motion. <br />2 ayes - 1 naye (Senden) - motion carried <br />Motion by Senden, seconded by Benke to refer that portion <br />of the Hansen Park redevelopment plan generally west of <br />County Ditch #2 to the police department for traffic safety <br />review, and to the department of public works for cost <br />analysis and a traffic safety study. <br />Motion by Senden to amend the main motion to include deletion - <br />of the timbered section of the play area and relocation of <br />basket ball, skating, and ,picnic facilities proposed in the <br />area of the tennis courts and park shelter. <br />Motion died for lack of second. <br />Motion by Benke to amend the main motion to include consideration <br />of a second tot free -skating area near the shelter. <br />Motion died for lack of second. <br />Vote on main motion. <br />3 ayes - 0 nayes motion carried <br />-4- <br />
