Council Proceedings
City of New Brighton
Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton
City Council was held Tuesday, January 9, 1979 at 7:48 p.m., in the
municipal building, 803 5th Avenue N.W., New Brighton, Minnesota
Present: Mayor James Senden, Councilmembers Bob Benke,
Roger Blomquist, Jeanette Janecek, Fritz Werdouschegg
Absent: None
Also Vernon C. Pederson, City Manager/Clerk;
Present: Les Proper, Director of Public Works;
James F. Winkels, Director of Community Development;
Donald L. Lais, City Attorney
Minutes
Motion by Werdosuchegg, seconded by Benke
to approve minutes of December 27, 7:00 p.m.
and to change the starting time on the
December 27 , 7:30 minutes from 7:30 to
7:58 and to approve the minutes of Dec. 27, 7:58
as corrected.
5 ayes - 0 nayes- carried
Special Order of Business
Mayor Senden gave the following organizational statement:
In preparation for the start of a new year, I try
to review the previous year, analyze the current
situation and then look to the future.
As I looked back over the minutes of our 1978 meetings,
I was struck by the great volume of work that had been
done. I found that the council had met an average of
four times each month. The minutes from those meetings
make a stack several inches thick and the agendas and
supporting materials more than fill a file drawer. The
sheer volume of the work done is certainly impressive.
The three new members of the council, in particular,
are to be congratulated for their productivity.
I can say without a doubt that this council has met more
times and for more hours in one year than any other New
Brighton council. And, this council has dealt with some
of the toughest issues to come along. For example:
The year-long struggle which ended with the approval of
the Crossroads Elderly and Family Housing projects.
The extra meetings and work to finish our Comprehensive.
Plan and forward it to neighboring cities and school
districts for review. And the extra efforts needed to
make certain that current development is consistent
with the proposed plan.
