Box 3118 • St. Paul, Minnesota 55165 <br />Telephone 612-636-3900 • Telex 29-7451 <br />March 2, 1977 <br />The Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />City of New Brighton <br />803 Fifth Avenue Northwest <br />New Brighton, MN 55112 <br />Gentlemen: <br />The Johnson Division of UOP Inc. has learned that its properties at 1950 <br />Old Highway 8 are included within the boundaries of the New Brighton Housing <br />and Redevelopment Area. The Johnson Division cannot determine one single <br />reason why their properties have been included in this area and request that <br />they be removed before the plan is approved by the City Council. <br />According to a statement in the published plan: <br />"The City Council of New Brighton, Minnesota, pursuant to the 'Municipal <br />Housing and Redevelopment Act' of the State of Minnesota hereby finds, <br />determines and declares: <br />1. There exists in New Brighton, Minnesota, substandard or blighted areas <br />which cannot be redeveloped without the assistance of government. <br />2. Adequate housing accommodations are not available to veterans and <br />servicemen and their families. <br />3. There is a shortage of decent, safe, and sanitary dwelling accommodations <br />available to persons of low income and their families at rentals they <br />can afford. <br />UmInc. <br />
