The thirteenth property_; <br />owner explained that he would write a letter to that effect to <br />the City Council. We have attached, for your information, these <br />recommendations signed by the property owners. <br />In conclusion we emphasized the following factors: <br />(1). The proposed canopy will result in no visual <br />obstruction. <br />(2) We respect both the needs and the wishes of <br />our neighbors. We do not operate our station <br />twenty-four (24) hours per day but operate only <br />during the daylight and the early evening hours. <br />(3) We and the private individual property owners <br />believe that the canopy will not be detrimental <br />to the aesthetics or general welfare of the <br />community. <br />(4) That the recessed lighting, as installed in the <br />canopy, will not only improve the appearance of <br />the station, but will also reduce the amount of <br />light scatter that is emitted from the free- <br />standing light poles currently in use. <br />(5) That Falcon Oil is a small company which must <br />compete with the larger companies like the <br />self-service SuperAmerica Station, a wholly owned <br />subsidiary of Ashland Oil, across the street. <br />(6) That the canopy is a necessity for a self- <br />service station such as ours and that it is <br />mandatory for our continued economic well-being. <br />We have already noticed a deterioration of our <br />retail business on rainy days, which we believe <br />is the direct result of our inability to compete <br />- 4 _ <br />
