r <br />The cost of the custom-made canopy is 514,094.00, Unfortunately, <br />we are -unable to return the canopy to the manufacturer. <br />We then explained that the present location of the <br />buildings and pumps was the main reason for our inability to <br />meet the setback requirement. We noted that at the time of the <br />original construction of the service station, one of the primary <br />purposes for placing the service station so close to the street <br />was to provide an increased green area around the station so as <br />to protect and insure the privacy of the abutting property owners, <br />We hope that the Board of Review and the Council will <br />consider the purposes behind our placement of the service station <br />and its effect on our present dilemma when evaluating our request <br />for a variance permit. <br />Falcon Oil has been a member of the community since <br />1969. We are and continue to'be a good neighbor, Recognizing <br />that Minnesota Statutes only permits variances if they do not act <br />to the detriment of the public health, safety, morals and general <br />welfare, we thought it proper to contact the property owners <br />surrounding the station in order to explain our variance request, <br />.Therefore, we took upon ourselves to contact each 'and every pri- <br />vate individual property owner in the area surrounding the <br />service station. Thirteen out of the thirteen property owners <br />contacted said they would not oppose our request. All of the <br />property owners said that they believed our request was in the <br />best interests of the community, that ,it would not be detrimental <br />
