We then explained that the present location of the buildings and pumps was the main reason for our inability to meet the setback requirement. We noted that at the time of the original construction of the service station, one of the primary purposes for placing the service station so close to the street was to provide an increased green area around the station so as to protect and insure the privacy of the abutting property owners, We hope that the Board of Review and the Council will consider the purposes behind our placement of the service station and its effect on our present dilemma when evaluating our request for a variance permit. We are and continue to'be a good neighbor, Recognizing that Minnesota Statutes only permits variances if they do not act to the detriment of the public health, safety, morals and general welfare, we thought it proper to contact the property owners surrounding the station in order to explain our variance request, .Therefore, we took upon ourselves to contact each 'and every pri- vate individual property owner in the area surrounding the service station. Thirteen out of the thirteen property owners contacted said they would not oppose our request.
