distance that the pumps could be moved we contacted Police
Chief Holmes. In Chief Holmes' opinion 22 feet would be
a sufficient distance to allow cars and pedestrians to
safely navigate the area between the pumps and the building.
Therefore, the maximum the pumps could be moved, and still allow
enough area for the passing of cars, the opening of car doors,
and the safe passage of pedestrians, is 8 feet.'
We contacted the Hale Company of St. Paul, a contractor
who specializes in the equipping and construction of service
stations, because past experiences have shown that they offer
the lowest prices. The Hale Company submitted that the cost
of a relocation to the point that Chief Holmes suggested is
$10,502.00.
We cannot afford the high costs of relocation. If
we are unable to erect the canopy, the cost of the canopy
coupled with our declining business will result in extreme
hardship, Therefore, we respectfully request that the Board of
Review approve and the City Council grant our request for a
variance permit.
10 -
