INVENTORY
Lake Forest is a 3.6 acre lake located in Section 30, T. 30 N.,
R. 23 W., in the southwest quadrant of I-694 and Silver Lake Road
in New Brighton.
On August 26, 1976, a field investigation was made to determine
the nature and extent of the problems associated with the lake. The
following summarizes the investigation:
LAKE CHARACTERISTICS:
A. 3.6 acres is the approximate surface area.
B. The water appeared brown in color from a distance. Exami-
nation of a water sample revealed the presence of algae,
.most of it nonfilamentous. There were no emergent species
of vegetation present along the shoreline. The water is
periodically treated with copper sulfate to control the
growth of algae. Vegetation along the shoreline is mowed
to present a neat appearance of the shoreline.
C. Waterfowl were utilizing the lake at the time of investi-
gation. Mr. Wozniak noted that otter and muskrat are
occassionally seen using the.lake, also.
D. The natural outlet is to the north (refer to map). The
normal level of water in the lake is considerably lower
than this outlet. Under present watershed characteristics
- it is doubtful that this outlet is used except during the
most severe storms. If the lake ever overflowed the
-water would flow into Pike Lake.
E. The sources of water for the lake are direct rainfall,
direct runoff from the slopes surrounding the lake, and
e two storm sewers (locations shown on map overlay) which
channel stormwater runoff from the surrounding watershed
into the lake..
