WATERSHED CHARACTERISTICS:
A. The size of the watershed is approximately 110 acres.
Land use in the watershed is about 30% open space, 5%
parking lot and large institutional buildings, 65% urban
residential with average lot size about 1/3 acre. The
soils in the watershed are predominantly Hayden fine
sandy loam with slopes ranging from 0 to 24 percent.
The average slope is 8 to 10 percent.
B. Stormwater runoff from the new development to the west
of the outlined watershed boundaries does not drain into
Lake Forest. Instead it drains into the ditch along
I--694 and then into Pike Lake.
DETERMINATION OF PROBLEMS:
The problems associated with this body of water are outlined
below:
A. Fluctuations in the water level. This results in a
weedy type of vegetation around the shoreline between
-the high water elevation and the normal water elevation.
B. A rise in the high water elevation has resulted in the
loss of some trees. More trees will be lost if the high
water elevation is increased from what it is at the pre-
sent time.
C. The water quality of the lake was not determined, but
it can be expected to be polluted to some degree. Because
of the urban nature of thw watershed, the following
-pollutants could be expected to appear in the lake: lawn
fertilizers and herbicides, road de-icing salt, sand from
streets, organic debris deposited in streets (primarily -
-grass clippings and leaves), oil from automobile traffic
=and driveway and street maintenance, and sediment from
-- construction sites. Because the lake has no outlet these
v pollutants tend to have a cumulative effect.
