3. Leave grass clippings on lawns. Removing the <br />clippings removes nutrients which must be re- <br />placed with commercial fertilizers. <br />4. Do not deposit leaves or grass clippings in <br />streets. Stormwater flushes these materials <br />into storm sewers which lead directly to the <br />lake. In the lake this organic debris adds <br />to the nutrient loading of the water, thereby <br />encouraging algal growth and eutrophication. <br />-5. Repair oil and gasoline leaks in automobiles. <br />6. Erosion on new construction sites must be <br />controlled. <br />Very little can be done to eliminate the quantity of sedi- <br />ment entering the lake from street sanding and maintenance. <br />Because the area is already highly urbanized, all upland sedi- <br />-ment ponding sites have been utilized for other purposes.
