N. • ROSEVILLE, MINNESOTA 55113
TELEPHONE: 612/631-2205
RECEIVED
JAN 2 1 1977
CITY OF NEri BRICtIfoN
For the past three months, the Consumer Service Division of the North
Suburban Area Chamber of Commerce has been pursuing and developing with the
assistance of the Kellogg High School DECA Club, Edina Police Department, a
Edina Crime Prevention Fund Committee, and the Roseville Police Department, a
program entitled a "North Suburban Area Crime Prevention Reward Fund".
At our December 9th Board of Directors meeting, our directors upon the
reccomendation of the Consumer Service Division adopted the "Crime Prevention
Reward Fund" concept. The attached resolution is provided for your reference.
Briefly the fund raised from .donations obtained from the general citizens of
the North Suburban Area, the business community and service clubs would be
used to "assist" area police departments or appropriately the Ramsey County
Sheriff Department in buying information. Past experience in the Community of
Edina has shown that without a certain dollar amount being available citizens
generally will not provide information because they do not wish to become
involved. With such a fund, information is obtained much faster and with less
police time. In some cases, citizens donate the money back to the fund again.
The North Suburban Area Chamber of Commerce feels this program has a great deal
of merit and it has been working sucessfully in Edina for five years. Therefore
we wish our communities to adopt such a proposal. The Chamber fully understs
that one organization will have to get behind a program of this kind. We are
prepared to do this. We do wish to point out that their is no financial com-
mittment on the part of your City we only wish that you adopt the concept.
Tom, we have provided for your use along with copies of our letters to the mayor
and councilmen, a copy of Edina's Crime Prevention Newsletter, copies of our
Chamber's position and a copy of the various mews articles that appreared in
local area newspapers that you may wish to include in the councilmans packets.
If you have any further questions or concerns prior to the Council Meeting, please
contact me. I will be in attendance to answer any questions. Thanks for your
assistance.
Sincerely you s"';
Dan Bucholz
Executive Vice President
BETTER LIVING THROUGH BETTER BUSINESS
N9
CIC
