February 2, 1977
TO: Thomas F. Lewcock, City Manager
FROM: James J. Kleinschmidt, Director of Public Works
RE: Pulling the pump and motor on Well No. 8, inspecting it,
cleaning it, and replacing impellers, shafts, bearings
etc., if necessary and reinstalling said pump and motor
The 1977 Water Budget includes $5,000.00 in Code 701
Classification 4540 for pulling a pump and motor, inspecting
the same, cleaning and replacing defective shafts, bearings, etc.
Enclosed you will find four quotes for doing this work. I
recommend that Keys Well Drilling be awarded this work for the
low bid amount of $1,080.00. When this contractor pulls this
pump, we will inspect the shaft, bearings etc., to determine
if some of these parts need cleaning, repairing, or replacement.
We will then have the well driller do this work. This work
could add several thousand dollars to the cost of this work
or it could add nothing. Until we inspect the parts, we will not
know. We have 8 wells and we would like to inspect one or two
pumps every year until all pumps have been inspected. We would
then continue to inspect every pump once every 8 years. This
is preventive maintenance work and we hope to minimize emergency
repairs in the middle of the hot summer season when we cannot
afford to lose the use of any pump. Also, repairs made on an
emergency basis are more expensive.
JJK:bj
Attachments
ov
James Kleinschmidt
Director of Public Works
