Kleinschmidt, Director of Public Works RE: Traffic Signals at 5th St. NW and Silver Lake Road Ramsey County has submitted plans for approval by the City Council for the installation of traffic signals at the intersection of 5th St. NW with Silver Lake Road. These plans include the installation of two metal poles with mast arms extended over Silver Lake Road. These poles are located on the northeast corner and the southwest corner of this intersection. Each mast arm will support two sets of red yellow, and green lights (one for each traffic lane). So Silver Lake Road traffic will get their signal indication from the lights on these mast arms. The traffic on 5th St.NW will get their signal indication from lights mounted on metal signal standards on the northwest corner and the southeast corner of this intersection. Also, signal lights will be mounted on the metal poles on the northeast corner and the southwest corner so that '5th St. NW traffic will also get their signal indication from these lights. "Walk" and "Don't Walk" lights will be included on the signal standards as well as the metal poles. Push buttons are in- cluded on all four corners (2 on each corner). Loop detectors are included on all four legs of this intersection to control the functioning of these lights with Silver Lake Road being favored. A street light mounted on the metal pole at the southwest corner is included as part of this contract. The existing light on the northeast corner will remain. Ramsey County is asking the City Council to approve the plans and authorize the mayor to sign these plans. I have a set of these plans in my office if you or the Council want to review them. Also, I will leave the title sheet in Vern's office so the mayor can sign this sheet if the Council authorizes it.
