-2 -
Section 710:05, Subd. 6, of the Code of Ordinances for the City
of New Brighton provides that there shall be no parking within 20
feet of any intersection or crosswalk. It goes on to say that it is
unlawful at any time to permit any vehicle to park in these areas,
except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in
compliance with the directions of a policeman or traffic control
device.
If people are parking within 20 feet of an intersection or
crosswalk, perhaps appropriate signs could be installed on selected
streets stating "No Parking Between Signs".
These signs could be placed on the north side of City streets
west of Silver Lake Road and on the south side of City streets east of
Silver Lake Road. Two signs would be required on each street and these
signs would cost $35.00 per intersection or $600.00 for the seventeen
intersections on Silver Lake Road. I have not included County Roads
or State Aid Street intersections. in my opinion these signs would
not be needed on most of these intersections, such as Erin Court,
Windsor Drive, and Hamilton Court. They may be useful on streets
adjacent to apartments where residents tend to park in streets (such
as 3rd St.) or on streets where traffic is relatively heavy adajcent
to a church (such as 16th St.)
If the provisions of Section 710:05, Subd. 6, do not seem
adequate, the City Council could amend this Section to provide for
no parking for a greater distance than 20 feet from any intersection
or crosswalk.
JJK:bj
t
James J(/Kleinschmidt
Director of Public Works
