Council Proceedings
City of New Brighton r
IW-
Nov. 23, 1976
Jerry Kamaath, 2665 Rice Creek Terrace, stated that even
though the entrances would.be on Mississippi St. it would
be possible for.patrons to park on 26th Ave, thereby
creating some through traffic. He further stated that
the hours and character of the traffic would be di-fferent
from that in a normal commercial operation.
Brad Ristamaki, 2814 Rice Creek Terrace, stated he was
opposed to the liquor license and that the people in he
area were overwhelmingly opposed.
Ken Lee stated he owned 11 acres of commercial property
south of Mississippi St. He stated he disagreed that the
area was residential in nature and that, in fact, it had been
zoned commercial before the homes in the area were constructed.
He stated he was in favor of liquor license and that the
restaurant would add a good business and a substantial
tax base to the community.
Margaret Christenson, 2892 Rice Creek Terrace, stated that
many Irondale High School students would have to pass by the
restaurant to and from school. She stated her concerns with
this.
Mr. Bettenberg stated the traffic study projected 600
vehicle trips per day to the new shopping center via Mississippi St.
and 1400 vehicle trips per day to the proposed center via
Silver Lake Road. He reiterated his position that the
traffic increase due to the restaurant would be minimal.
He pointed out that the restaurant would have access to
Mississippi St. alone and that some 90 parking spaces would
be provided with seating capacity of 180 which should preclude the
need for any on -street parking. He noted further that with
adequate parking spaces there would be no reason for patrons
to park on 26th Ave. and walk across the boulevard and parking
lot to the restaurant. He noted the property had been zoned
B-3 for over 12 years and that the business was buffered to
the north with duplexes and that there were only 5 existing
residences facing the development. He noted the property
to the west was vacant and the property to the east was
commercial and the property to the south was commercial.
Mr. Bettenberg reiterated that traffic would not be
significant due to this development and stated that the
owner of the property had valuable property rights which
should be protected.
Ellen Citron noted that people occupying the duplexes had
also signed the petition in opposition to the liquor license.
Stan Keller stated that more traffic hazards would be present
since alcohol would be involved.
3
