i

Mr. J. R. Gooden
1285 Robin Lane
New Brighton, Minnesota 55112
November 26, 1976
Tlie Honorable Gayle C.
Mayor of New Brighton
2872 N.W. 18th Street
New Brighton, Minnesota
Dear Mayor Bromander:
Bromander
55112
On December 2, the Council will be deciding the fate of the Palmer
Drive - Robin Lane road issue. As you are aware, many of us in
the immediate area have been vitally concerned over this matter
as it is directly related to the safety of our children.
As a resident of New Brighton for over 16 years, which includes
4 years at my present home on Robin Lane, I believe I am somewhat
Qualified to speak on certain problems in the community. The
Palmer Drive - Robin Lane traffic situation is the type of problem
that one must live with to realize its ramifications. I feel that the
present City Council now has an opportunity to correct this problem
that jeopardizes the lives of our children. In reviewing the three
proposed alternatives that have been developed by the Engineering
Department, it is my opinion that alternative #2 will do the most
good and at the lowest cost. Alternative #2 would continue to
provide emergency vehicle access from Silverlake Road and allow for
a smooth traffic flow within the area.
If the Council decides to choose one of the alternatives, the change
will tend to redirect non-resident traffic that is now coming
into the Pike Lake Terrace area from 14th Street and will re-route
this traffic down 14th Street to Silverlake Road. Fourteenth Street
has been designed to carry this type of traffic as it is considerably
wider than either 13th Street or Robin Lane. In addition, it also
has sidewalks for the safety of the children and other residents.
As you recall, there was an overwhelming positive response by the
area residents to the petition that was submitted to the Planning
Commission, and subsequently to the Council, requesting that a
change be made in the Palmer Drive - Robin Lane area. Hopefully,
the Council will heed the residents response to this petition.
(continued)
