voters were located north of Rice Creek Road and the other z to the south.
Based on this information and due to the fact that Rice Creek Road .would meet
the requirements of Chapter 132, Laws of 1976,. this office next attempted to
locate a voting place for the proposed additional precinct. An ideal location
with very adequate. facilities was found to be the lower level of Salem Baptist
Church at 1995 Silver Lake Road. This off ice next approached the church council
of Salem Baptist Church as to the possibility of using the lower. level of its
church as a polling place. Salem Baptist responded favorably to this request.
Therefore, this office recommends that the future boundary of Precinct 2 be that
portion of the city north of Rice Creek Road from the westerly boundary of the city
to Long Lake Road, thence northerly on Long Lake Road to the bridge at the outlet
of Rice Creek,. thence along the northerly shoreline of Long Lake to Rice Creek
and along Rice Creek to the northeasterly boundary of the city as indicated on
the proposed precinct map with the polling place to be Sunnyside School.
This office recommends that an additional precinct be created of that portion of
Precinct 2 south of Rice Creek Road to be known as Precinct 6. The boundary of
this precinct would be Rice Creek Road from the Fridley border to Long Lake Road,
north on-Long Lake Road to the bridge at the outlet of Rice Creek and Long Lake,
thence along-the shoreline of Long Lake in a southeasterly direction to County
Ditch No. 2, thence along County Ditch No 2 in a southwesterly direction to Long
Lake Road, thence northwesterly on Long Lake Road to 14hh Street N.W. thence along
14th Street N.W. in a westerly direction to the Fridley border, thence northerly
along the Fridley border to Rice Creek Road with the p©li~ggpp~aee to be Salem
Baptist Church.
The only change proposed for Precinct 3 would be in the area of 17th Avenue N.W.
from 7th ..Street N. W. to 5th Street, N.W. The previous western boundry line for
Precinct 3 was 16th Avenue N.W. from the south city boundry line to 7th Street
N. W., As 16th Avenue N. W. terminates at 5th Street this office requested tisat
the state approve the west boundry of Hanson Park as the westerly boundry of
Precinct 3 from 5th Street N, W, to 7th Street N. W. The Mate responded that
this would not meet the requirements of Chapter 132 and advised us that 17th
Avenue, N.W. mould have to be the westerly boundry from 7th Street N. W. to
5th Street N. W. Therefore, a proposdd boundry .change for precinct 3 is that
17th Avenue N.W. from 7th Street N.W.. to 5th Street N.W. be the westerly boundry
This is the only change proposed for Precinct 3. This will shift about 10 homes
abutting 17th Avenue N.W. from Precinct S to Precinct 3. The number of votes cast
in Precinct 3 on November 2nd was 2128 which did not over tax the facilities.
The only changes proposed for Precinct 4 is that the east boundry will be the lake
instead of-8th Avenue extended and in the area. of the Long Lake interchange which
-will shift the homes south of I b94,-east of Long Lake Road, north- of 10th Street
N. W. and west of 8th Avenue extended to Precinct 1. The number of votes cast
in Precinct 4 on November 2nd was 1827.
No changes are proposed for Precinct S with the exception that the homes east of
17th Avenue N.W. from 5th Street N.W. to 7th Street N.W. will be voting in
Precin~.t3 rather than Precinct S and the boundry line ~ Precinct 5 will reflect
this change. 2077 votes were cast in Precinct 5 on November 2nd.
-2-
