Jacobson, Director of Public Safety <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this re ioSQ` Comments attached <br />Recommendation: <br />Purchase the following items to assemble a new grass/brush unit: <br />• 2008 .Ford F350 single axle Crew Cab pickup truck w/ 8 foot box from Elk River Ford at a state bid cost <br />of $28,552.27; <br />• slide -in pump assembly with foam capability from Polycraft Equipment Company of Alexandria at a cost <br />of $10,500. A competitive bid was received from another pump vendor at a cost of $4,000 more. Staff <br />consulted references and believes that the Polycraft system will suit the department's needs. <br />emergency lighting package from Emergency Lighting Technologies of Oakdale at a cast of $ 5,127.80. <br />This system was reviewed and recommended by City fleet mechanics. It will also meet National Fire <br />Protection Association (NFPA) 1906 Standard for Wildland Fire Apparatus. A competitive bid was <br />received from another vendor at a cost of $3500 more. <br />• vehicle graphics package consistent with the markings of existing Fire Division fleet vehicles from <br />Graphix Shoppe of Eagan at a cost of $695.00. <br />Legislative History: <br />The purchase of this vehicle is based upon the City of New Brighton Fleet Replacement Program. <br />Financial Impact: <br />The 2008 fleet replacement program has $44,802 budgeted for this vehicle. <br />Explanation: <br />The purchase of this new grass/brush unit will permit the removal of the 1955 Willys Jeep from the Fire Division <br />fleet. The Jeep is unable to conform to current national fire service safety standards for firefighting apparatus. <br />The new truck will have the ability to haul four firefighters in an enclosed cab with modern occupant protection <br />systems. In addition, it will have a greater water capacity (approximately 150 gallons) than the 90 gallons <br />currently offered by the Jeep and provide a Class A foam induction system. Due to the design of the new <br />apparatus, it will have the ability to perform multiple tasks, including hauling additional equipment (hoses, self- <br />contained <br />elfcontained breathing apparatus bottles, etc.) in the open bed space or towing one of the two rescues boats rescue <br />boats in the fleet. <br />Costs and Funding: <br />The total project price is $44845.07. This vehicle would have an anticipated lifecycle of 15 years.
