Jacobson, Director of Public Safety <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this re 2LCSCrl� Comments attached <br />Recommendation: <br />Approval for the Dept. of Public Safety to apply for a MN Department of Public Safety Office <br />of Justice Programs Problem Solving Partnership Grant. <br />Legislative History: <br />None <br />Financial Impact: <br />Request is for a two year grant for 100% of the costs of a Police Officer to partner with <br />Community Partners With Youth to focus on problem solving, crime reductions, youth <br />interaction and n-entorship with multi family and diverse populations in the City of New <br />Brighton. <br />Explanation: <br />The MN Department of Public Safety Office of Justice Programs (OJP) is accepting grant <br />proposals for problem solving partnerships. OJP is focusing on grants that will demonstrate <br />partnerships between public or private non profit entities and community based organizations. <br />OJP will focus on projects that improve public safety via increased understanding and <br />cooperation and demonstration of partnerships and collaborations. The Dept. of Public Safety <br />has approached Community Partners with Youth (CPY) to collaborate on a grant. Executive <br />Director Mayotte and the Dept. of Public Safety have met and will request funding for staffing, <br />equipment, supplies and training. The Dept. of Public Safety staffing request will be one full <br />time police officer for two years to work with CPY staff and students on multi family, diversity, <br />youth mentorship/role modeling, training and education issues and challenges. <br />Costs and Funding: <br />The cost for this program would be frilly funded for two years thru OJP. Costs of an entry level <br />police officer with benefits are approximately $57,000 per year. <br />.
