•
CJ
The wall would be replaced with a decorative modular block wall more commonly used today in
today's landscaping. The new wall will be designed by an engineer certified in retaining wall
design to ensure structural stability and integrity.
Twenty-ninth Avenue NW is a M.S.A. street which may allow the City to use M.S.A. funding
for the cost of replacement. If M.S.A. denies funding the replacement of this wall, the City
would not replace the wall as part of this project.
PUBLIC SAFETY IMPOUND LOT PAVING - The Public Safety impound lot is
located in the northwest corner of the City's maintenance facility at 700 5th Street NW. The lot
is used to store vehicles seized or forfeited as a result of police action. Please see the Public
Safety Lmpound Lot Paving map on Page 14.
The maintenance facility parking lot is paved with the exception of the area used to park the
impounded vehicles. These vehicles are parked on a gravel surface which is not consistent with
the New Brighton Zoning Code, Section 11-20 (1) Surfacing. All off-street driving, loading, and
parking areas shall have a bituminous or concrete surface. Off-street parking and drive areas for single
and two family residences may be constructed of brick or decorative block.
This impound lot is an attractive nuisance. Vehicles get damaged due to break-ins; windows get broken
and the glass is scattered throughout the gravel lot. Without a hard paved surface, this lot is nearly
impossible to clean.
We recommend the area be prepared and graded by City maintenance crews and paved by the
project Contractor thus saving money.
ESTIMATED PROJECT COSTS
The total estimated project cost for Project 08-1 is as follows:
4
ESTIMATED COST
Construction Costs
$796,550
In -House Engineering and Administration
$158,200
Professional Services
$11,300
Capitalized Interest
$38,550
Contingencies (10%)
$78,700
TOTAL ESTIMATED PROJECT COST
$1,083,300
4
