Economic Development Commission <br />This nine member commission advises the Council on matters concerning industrial and <br />commercial development for the City. The commission meets at 7:00 a.m. on the first Tuesday <br />of the month. <br />Civil Service Commission <br />The Civil Service Commission is a three member citizen committee that meets at least once a <br />year to consider the hiring and promotion of police officers. It also serves on as -needed basis for <br />hearings on disciplinary actions. <br />Public Safety Commission <br />This nine member citizen commission advises the Council on matters related to the goals, <br />policies and operations on public safety functions and human rights issues and fulfils the <br />responsibilities and obligations of a Police Civil Service Commission, pursuant to the terms and <br />provisions of MN Laws 1929 Ch. 299 (MN Statutes, Chapter 419 et seq, as amended). Duties <br />include assisting the police and fire divisions in such activities as assessing community concerns <br />relating to public safety issues, developing long range strategic plans, developing and monitoring <br />achievement of performance measures. Also included are duties relating to participation in <br />regional human rights organizations and endeavors and monitoring and advising the Council on <br />efforts to create equal opportunity and eliminate discrimination. Meetings are held on the last <br />Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. <br />For City Council review, City staff has attached a copy of Ordinance #402, #602, and City Code <br />Chapter 2. The aforementioned documents were previously approved by past City Councils and <br />describe the various committees and commissions that have been implemented by the City. A <br />few of the committees and commissions identified in these three documents are no longer active. <br />Also for City Council review, City staff has attached a copy of the ordinance, policy, and sample <br />work plan that the City of Arden Hills adopted in 2007 to address future appointments and <br />recruitments of individuals to various boards, committees, commissions, and appointed bodies. <br />City staff is planning to use the documents provided by the City of Arden Hills as an aid in <br />discussing potential changes that may be implemented by the City Council in addressing future <br />recruitments, appointments, and possibly term limits. <br />Schawn P.
