-5 -
We encourage instructors to contact us if they have a class they would like to offer.
• C. Trails Committee Update — Lisa Harreld
Lisa Harreld stated at the meeting tonight we talked about the Long Lake Road
Bike trail. Lisa wanted to thank Martens for all of his efforts in contacting the
City, County and State personnel which is often difficult. Brad has done a nice job
with that. Next week Harreld stated she will be attending an Active Living,
Ramsey County, bike meeting. She is excited that we are moving forward with a
bike lane.
Announcements
A. Chair Updates
Frischman stated many Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission
members attended an MRPA Symposium in Roseville and got a lot of information
on how boards and commissions are structured and how they interact with City
Councils in primarily the metro area. There was a representative from
Minneapolis and those commissioners happen to be elected officials, rather than
appointed. It was interesting and perhaps it is something New Brighton could look
into in showcasing the Family Service Center because it did showcase the John
Rose oval and showed a lot of people from different cities opportunities that
would be available for banquets, meetings, or conventions. One of the
recommendations that came out of that meeting was that this would be a nice
meeting for the rest of the commission to attend. It really was insightful.
Frischman also stated the summer booklet is out regarding lots of programs for
summer activities. Programs are filling fast, recommend you get registered soon.
There has been some new graffiti. The graffiti hotline is 651-288-4134. Please
report any graffiti you have noticed. Frischman also reiterated the grand opening
for the Family Service Center, Saturday, May 17`h, 8:OOam-1:OOpm.
B. Department Happenings
Sandy Breuer went through the Department Happenings presentation with the
Commission.
Breuer responded to a few questions:
• There will be 3 senior all night parties in our facility.
• The school district is now charging for use of their facilities. The City
Council approved the proposed fees for use of our facilities/fields. This
had been brought before this Commission prior to it going to Council. The
fees were implemented this past April.
• Disc Golf seems to be doing fine
• Had call re: dog that was off leash. (Referred caller to Public Safety).
Reminder to pick up after your dog too.
• 12`h Ave resident stated there is a vast improvement to the number of cars
parking on 12`h Ave. They love the change.
• • Hidden Oaks soccer field has patches worn through. We are also having
non -permitted groups using Driftwood on weekends and tearing it up
pretty good. We have taped it off, to give it a rest for a while. We are
renting some fields and gaining revenue on them. We are also trying not to
over use them.
