WOE
Trevorrow commented about the possibility of cutting back on the number of
• Commission members. He feels there are a lot of areas this commission
covers, such as the parks and Family Service Center and the environmental
piece. The Commissioners have a lot of experience and knowledge. Most of
the Commissioners are dedicated and take ownership of the parks. Reducing
the number, could take away from the parks and the assets we do have. Parks
are a huge asset to the City. He heard that the reduction in numbers was
requested by this Commission but he has no recollection of that discussion
and was wondering if it came from staff.
Breuer commented that 1 - 1 '/2 years ago there was a lot of turn over in this
Commission. When the new City Manager came on board, the large turnover
issue was presented to him. When there were several vacancies on this
Commission, we had a small pool of applicants to choose from. At: that time,
we only filled one of those vacancies. The Commission bylaws state we can
have up to 9 members; it does not state we have to have 9; It was Breuer's
recommendation to leave it at 8. That information came from Breuer to the
City Manager. This Commission did not make that suggestion. The Council
has been looking at Commissions from January until March.
The Council reviewed all the Commissions and made some decisions. They
may review these changes at a later date, since there has been feedback on
some of the decisions that were made.
Budzynski suggested written descriptions of the roles and responsibilities for
each of the different Commissions. If the Council plans to look at all the
Commissions again, perhaps this could be considered.
Breuer stated we do hand out 6 months of minutes to the new Commissioners
and Article 4 which describes the general role and responsibilities. Breuer
stated she would be happy to bring this up with the Council Liaison and see if
it is something the Council may want to delve into deeper..
Breuer commented that there was a public hearing at the Public Safety Center
regarding the proposed cell tower at Hidden Oaks Park. Commissioner
Budzynski was at that hearing. It now goes to a Council Work Session May
13tH
Ron Meyer stated it would be beneficial for residents to bring their senior
parents over to the Family Service Center for the grand opening. There is a
brand new senior newsletter that has just been published. It is at the Family
Service Center. On the cover is an article on Evalyn Gullickson of New
Brighton. She is 105 years old.
• VIII. Adjourn
MOTION BY TOM TREVORROW, SECONDED BY SCOTT BUDZYNSKI, TO ADJOURN
THE MEETING AT 7:35 P.M. MOTION CARRIED.
