P1 . o
NEW
)BRIGHTON
the city that works for you
July, 2008
Dear New Brighton Resident
The streets in your neighborhood are scheduled to be seal coated in August.
Please see the map on the back of this sheet for the location of streets being
seal coated.
Streets are seal coated 5 years and again at 13 years after their construction or
reconstruction. Seal coating is considered routine maintenance and there is no
direct charge or assessments to the property owners for this work.
Seal coating is a process of distributing bituminous oil, or liquid asphalt, on the
street surface and then covering it with small rock chips. The rock is allowed to
work into the oil for approximately 10 to 14 days and then the excess rock is
swept up. The new seal coat provides the street a new waterproof surface and
uniform look. Prior to seal coating, the City cleans and fills pot holes and cracks,
and thoroughly sweeps the streets.
When the "NO PARKING' signs are put up, please do not park on the streets
being seal coated until the work has been completed. You may drive on the
streets immediately after the seal coat is applied but we ask that you drive
slowly to minimize dust and scuffing of the new surface.
City of New Brighton
Engineering Department
(651)638-2050
