-3
There was an inquiry about whether there are maps on our web site about some of
the proposed paths. Breuer mentioned that we are doing an article for the "In the
• Neighborhood" (which comes out in July) which will focus on the Safe Routes to
Schools. The article also directs people to go to the website for maps. The maps
will be on the web site, they are just not there yet.
VII. Announcements
A. Chair Updates
Frischman reiterated an earlier mention of a public hearing at the August 6ch
Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission meeting regarding the Hansen
Park trails. It is National Trails Day on June 7`h so get out and walk a trail. A
"kick off' event for Safe Routes to Schools event is being held at Bel Air School
on June 5 with prizes, a party and recognition of some members of the
community. That starts at 10:30 with local dignitaries speaking, at 11:00 we will
be giving away a bike, helmet, padlock and other prizes.
MOTION BY BUDZYNSKI, SECONDED BY SAMUELSON, TO CANCEL
THE JULY 2, 2008 MEETING. MOTION CARRIED.
B. Department Happenings
Breuer gave the Department Happenings presentation.
Breuer stated there are three all night parties at our facility this year. Tonight is
Irondale, then Tartan and then St. Anthony.
. Breuer informed the Commission that there is new playground equipment arriving
at Veterans Park. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 24`h. The
Council will be there.
Budzynski mentioned that he has not seen the Tobacco Free signs in the parks. He
has not seen them at Freedom or other parks he has been to. Breuer said we
assigned the job of posting these signs to our part time maintenance staff. They
just started and may not have had opportunity yet to complete the task. Most of
the signs are placed on the trash receptacles.
Budzynski asked about the boat that was purchased to monitor Long Lake. Breuer
said we still have the boat and it is still being used by Public Safety to monitor
Long Lake.
Trevorrow asked about the possibility of turning the Pike Lake fields into an adult
ball field. Right now no one is using it. The dandelions have taken over. Or, it
could be turned into a soccer field and at least utilized as a practice field.
Breuer stated that these fields are not City fields but school fields. Our Recreation
Manager can look into it if she feels there is a need.
Budzynski said that on Long Lake Road and County Road H there are some empty
lots on the west side. The boulevard was mowed in that area (south of County
Road H on the right side) and the grass clippings went into the gutter. If it is the
City that mows, we should be good stewards of the environment and the clippings
should not go in the gutter. Breuer stated she will check into that.
