PLANNING REPORT <br />is DATE: September 8, 2008 <br />CASE: SP2008-017 <br />SUBJECT: Special Use Permit to Amend an Existing Comprehensive Sign Plan for <br />900 Long Lake Road <br />APPLICANT: Welsh Companies, LLC on behalf of Ralph & Elsie Tunnquist <br />REQUEST & BACKGROUND <br />The applicant is requesting a Special Use Permit to allow an amendment to the existing <br />Comprehensive Sign Plan governing allowed signage at 900 Long Lake Road. The amendment <br />would consist of allowing a wall -mounted sign on the south fagade of the building. The <br />proposed sign would be 73 SF and no other wall signs are either existing or proposed on this <br />facade of the building. Other signs on the site include two ground signs: one facing Long Lake <br />Road and one facing I-694, and one wall mounted sign on the western fagade. This site is <br />particularly unique in that street frontage exists on three of the four sides. <br />This site was developed in 1993 through a Planned Unit Development. At the time of PUD <br />approval a Special Use Permit was approved allowing for establishment of a Comprehensive <br />Sign Plan. Establishment of the Comprehensive Sign Plan was part of the PUD approval. This <br />site was more than likely considered a "renewal area" under Section 9-041 (1).
