o Allina Hospitals & Clinics is looking at starting a new program called Center for Healthcare Initiative. They are looking at the community of New Ulm and looking at ways to eliminate heart attacks there by improving health in that community. They are also looking at the one square mile around Allina commons and plan to do "something" to help that part of the community. More information to come. • Allina is ready for the RNC. The RNC has been classified as a National Special Security Event so the Secret Service is in charge of security. Allina is increasing their staffing during the RNC by 20-30% by suspending time off. They will also deploy their new mobile command center which will provide EMS support to SWAT, officers, etc. o Before the RNC, Allina will participate in a Regional Healthcare Drill with 22 other hospitals participating. The drill will present a mock situation that they will respond to. They will deploy their mobile dispatch center and evacuate their building. Volunteers in Public Safety (YIPS Commissioner Woods noted the following items regarding VIPs 0 19 VIPS attended their monthly meeting. o There will be a blood drive at the Public Safety Center i,n May. o VIPS assisted with the New Brighton Triathlon; there were over 300 participants. o VIPS were at the Boy Scout Bike Rodeo andoid 16 bike helmets. o VIPS will be helping out more this year at Stockyard Days.'' Public Safety,/ Homeland Security Update Director Jacobson noted the following items: o Members' °public Safety participated in the Special Olympics Torch Run. o Members , Public Safety completed Grandma's marathon in Duluth; a cumulative total of 61 marathons have been run. o An exposer who was arrested in Roseville is a suspect in one of our exposing cases. o There was a burglary on 12th Avenue where a good description was given and our officers had a suspect in mind so a photo lineup was prepared and the victim was able to ID the suspect; we are still looking for the suspect. n NBDPS police officers will be working at the RNC. They will most likely be assigned to the Excel Energy Center. o There was a car jacking incident with the suspect being arrested in Minneapolis; they have been charged with simple robbery.
