Authorization to Proceed with Bid process for purchase of fire truck, <br />Report No. 08-309. <br />Deputy Fire Chief Tony Paetzmck gave background information related to the replacement of the 1989 <br />Luveme rescue truck, Unit number 799. The Fire Division apparatus committee has been <br />meeting for several months, researching apparatus options, and ultimately developed the <br />technical specifications for the replacement vehicle. Staff recommends advertising for <br />and awarding this bid during 2008 as changes to industry standards effective January 1St, <br />2009, will result in an anticipated price increase of $30,000. Councilmember Phillips <br />stated he would support delaying the purchase six months in order to obtain the newer <br />model, with improved emission standards. Councilmember Bauman questioned the <br />possibility of refurbishment. Officer Paetznick stated it would be about 50% of the cost, <br />and there would not be an option to add a fire pump. Councilmember Bauman questioned <br />the City's responsibility if the standards change, would we be grandfathered in? Officer <br />Paetznick reported if we purchase the vehicle by December 31, 2008, we would be in <br />compliance with all requirements from that point forward. <br />Motion by Councilmember Doffing seconded by Councilmember Burg to authorize the City <br />of New Brighton Department of Public Safety Fire Division to advertise for <br />competitive bids for a new Rescue Pumper. <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried <br />Councilmember Burg asked for clarification of mutual aid Director of Public Safety Bob Jacobson <br />explained the City is currently in discussion with other agencies mWdmg mutual aid and auto aid <br />New Brighton is very well equipped, other agencies straggle with daytime coverage. Councilmember <br />Burg stated her concern with other agencies that have not made a significant investment in their Fire <br />Departments, using the resources we have in New Brighton Mayor Larson shared his conn with <br />auto aid. <br />Director of Public Safety introduced V.I.P. Member Long Nguyen and commended him on his efforts <br />for graffiti eradication in the City. Mayor Larson and councilmembers all o meased gratitude for the 90 <br />plus volunteer hours logged in October by Mr. Nguyen. <br />Commission Liaison Announcements and Updares: <br />_City Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter reported the Tearnster Negotiations are on going, meetings will take plane <br />between the LELS and Sergeant unions regarding an insurance reopmer. Also reported was the <br />new joint power's agreement for health insurance. <br />10.
