In addition to
brainstorming potential amendments, staff would like the Commission to prioritize
those issues to aid staff in researching and processing such amendments over
the next year. Attached to this memo is a list that staff has been compiling over
the last 3 years, which should help start the brainstorming effort.
Future Steps
The City Council has identified a future policy discussion related to Zoning Code
amendments. Following the worksession, staff would distribute to the Council
the list of potential amendments generated at the Commission's worksession.
This list would identify for the Council specific areas where the existing Zoning
Code is lacking and aid them in providing direction to City staff and the
Commission. Prior to Commission examination of each potential amendment in
either future worksessions or a public hearing format, the City Council should
direct the Commission to engage in this process. No timetable for Council
discussion on this policy issue has been identified, however the materials
resulting from the worksession discussion will be provided to the Council with
their regular weekly updates. It is staff's hope that the full Council would support
the amendment process and direct staff and the Commission to proceed
immediately.
