Announcements
A. Chair Updates --- Lives we touched in 2008
Frischman went through a power point presentation; which walked the
Commissioners through our successes of 2008. This information will also be
presented to City Council next week.
B. Department Happenings / upcoming events
Breuer reminded Commissioners that they have an updated park atlas. This is
also available online. The atlas tells you all the amenities in the park, acres in the
park, year the park was established. Breuer shared the Department Happenings
. with the Commission.
Heinrich stated he noticed information about our Health Expo in the paper. It is
this Saturday, I Oam —Noon.
Frischman stated she wanted to thank our Parks Department intern Jen Saver for
her 16 weeks with the Department. She has been invaluable. She will be a huge
asset to the industry and it would be wonderful to find a way to keep her on board.
Breuer stated she is working hours at the FSC front desk and working at warming
houses.
Meyer stated he would like to talk to the seniors out there. Meyer stated there is a
new Wii (computer game) that has just been installed at the Family Service
Center. There were a few senior ladies that played Wii for 2 hours and thoroughly
enjoyed it. They played tennis, bowled and played golf. This is all with the arms.
You are duplicating the movement of the arm in these sports. It is a wonderful
new tool that we have. Everyone can do it.
Trevorrow stated we have an asset that is underused. It is Brightwood Hills for
Cross Country Skiing. He talked about the possibilities of getting more involved;
maybe by keeping the building opened on weekends or possibly renting
equipment. Even if that doesn't happen, he just wanted residents to know that
there are trail there to be used. It is not a groomed trail, but trails made by other
skiers.
