January 27, 2009 Page 5 of 6 <br />City Manager Lotter reported Bob Long representing Lockridge Grindal Nauen attended the earlier council <br />work session. Lockridge Grindal Nauen would represent the City in DC and assist in pursuing Economic <br />Stimulus package money, in addition to appropriation dollars for projects to advance cleanup efforts in the <br />Northwest Quadrant. A contract was distributed, indicating an annual cost of $48,000. A 30 day written <br />notice would terminate the contract if council decided to do so. <br />Motion by Councihnember Phil4n, seconded by Councilmember Burg to approve the contract with <br />Lockridge Grindal Nauen for Federal Government Relation services as discussed. <br />Councilmember Bauman reported that because this money is coming from the recent stimulus package, she <br />is not going to vote in favor of the item. <br />Councilmember Burg stated she is in favor of the item; in order prepare shovel ready sites for finding from <br />the stimulus package. <br />Councilmember Doffing stated currently the City has very few opportunities to remove contamination from <br />the Northwest Quadrant; she described this as an "amazing opportunity." <br />Councilmember Phillips reported he thinks the timing of the stimulus fiords is appropriate, and will benefit <br />the City of New Brighton. <br />4 Ayes, l Nay- Motion Carried <br />Ayes: Mayor Larson, Councilmembers Doffing, Burg and Phillips <br />Nay: Councilmember Bauman <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br />City Manner --Dean Lotter <br />Manager I -otter reported it was determined at the recent Teambudding retreat to hold 1 additional monthly <br />work session meeting in order to discuss various council items. These meeting will occur on the first <br />Tuesday of each month. It was reported there were two neighborhood meetings comin up; February 12th at <br />Freedom Park, and February 0' at Hansen Park. The recent joint meeting (February 9� with the Colliers <br />presentation was well attended, the meeting will be available on the City's website in the near future. <br />Councihneinber MM Butte <br />Councilmember Burg attended a North Suburban Cable Commission meeting. The recent EDC meeting <br />was attended; the Northwest Quadrant Financial Task Force was discussed. A business questionnaire <br />has been created, city staff, along with an EDC commissioner are talking with local businesses about their <br />thoughts on doing business in New Brighton. The venue for the EDC meetings have been moved from the <br />council chambers to the conference roar. Meetings will continue to be audio recorded. <br />Councihnember David Phillips <br />Councilmember Phillips reported the next Planning Commission meeting is scheduled for February 17". <br />There will be a Public Hearing to discuss zoning code amendments. Councilmember Phillips also <br />commented on the joint meeting, and recommended interested parties obtain the report from the City's web <br />site. <br />Commission Liaison <br />RaMKt .
