had never seen such a complex project. Nelson inquired whether the wye would still be
constructed. Black replied that Minnesota Commercial is concerned about tax implications if the
wye is constructed and have not brought forward a proposal to construct the wye. Nelson
suggested that the intention of the wye was to help eliminate the blockage of streets due to the
coal trains, and indicated that he would like to see the wye built. Black added that the billboard
located by Transoma will remain until this fall and then be removed.
Black reported that the post office has relocated to the Main Street Village complex. Several
commissioners voiced concerns about getting into the new location and with parking on the site,
but suggested that the drive-thru works well. Black reported that the old post office building
would be used for fire training in March after asbestos is removed, and then demolished.
Veit has completed fifty percent of the dump removal and should be completed in mid-to-late
summer.
The City has offered AT&T Wireless a settlement to recover their relocation costs, but it was
rejected. AT&T has applied for a building permit to be relocated to a corner of the Mission
Foods site. It is hoped that a settlement will be reached before that permit is released.
Business Questionnaire
Black and Lesher interviewed Candy Miller from AAA Cooper. The business is very stable and
it has a good financial outlook. Lesher reported that Miller had expressed concerns about the
costs of licensing trucks in the state, which is two to three times higher than other states where
the company does business. Miller said that she would be very interested in attending meetings
with other businesses within the City and is very passionate about New Brighton.
Announcements
Benke noted that all commissioners whose terms are up in March will need to reapply by the end
of February. Burg added that term limits for commissioners were discussed at the team building
session, but no decisions were made. It has been suggested that a commissioner could serve
three terms; with at least one year off, he or she could apply to serve again. It is hoped that this
would invigorate the community and increase volunteers.
Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 a.m.
0
