<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />City of New Brighton <br />May 11, 1982 <br /> <br />Motion by Janecek to approve the two designated <br />Hansen Park sites for community gardening for a <br />one year period of time. <br /> <br />Motion died for lack of second. <br /> <br />Motion by Benke, seconded by Schmidt to approve <br />the community garden site along 13th Avenue and <br />to direct staff to continue studying the 7th Street <br />site as well as other sites that might be available. <br />4 ayes - 0 nayes - motion carried <br /> <br />Motion by Schmidt, seconded by Janecek to <br />waive the reading, hold the second reading, <br />adopt and order publication of an ORDINANCE <br />AMENDING THE NEW BRIGHTON ZONING ORDINANCE <br />BY REZONING CERTAIN PROPERTY OF THE CITY OF <br />NEW BRIGHTON vlITHIN GROUP II OF THE COMPREHENSIVE <br />REZONINGS. <br />4 ayes - 0 nayes - motion carried <br /> <br />The City Planner reviewed the staff report. <br /> <br />Councilmemher Schmidt indicated that he had <br />a concern for potentially similar requests <br />and a concern for what type of public uses <br />could use the property. Councilmember Schmidt <br />further stated that he was concerned for fairness <br />in other applications as well as for potential <br />additions to other churches in the City. <br /> <br />Mr. Howard Rekstad and Mr. Ward Brady, representing <br />Salem Baptist Church, were present to discuss the <br />special use permit request. <br /> <br />R-124, Group II <br />Comprehensive <br />Rezonings <br />Report No. 82-117 <br />ORDINANCE #495 <br /> <br />SP-lOl, Salem <br />Baptist Church <br />Report No. 82-118 <br /> <br />Mr. Rekstad stated that they were present tonight <br />and were requesting the Council to act on their <br />special use permit request, to act favorably on <br />their special use permit request, to delete the <br />requirement for the handicapped accessible washroom <br />and to indicate that the church wanted to continue <br />cooperating with the City in all regards. Mr. Rekstad <br />reviewed the chronology of events regarding the application <br />for a special use permit to use the home for Sunday School <br />classes noting that they had originally started back in <br />November of 1981 when it was established that they had <br />been operating that school in the home without having <br />first obtained the required permit. Mr. Rekstad,stated <br />that they had been working with staff on a continual <br />basis for several months to determine if all building <br />code requirements could be met. Mr. Rekstad indicated <br />that the church is now willing to do all that staff <br />has requested and that they would like to proceed as the <br />building has sat empty for several months.
