<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />---....-----~l <br /> <br />..' <br /> <br />~ " <br /> <br />r---- <br /> <br />C.LLy or N(;W LHlyhton <br />,August 10, 1982 <br /> <br />indicating that his contact with the <br />City's insurance carrier was that they were <br />not aware of the claim. <br /> <br />The City Engineer reviewed the two sewer <br />blockages that occurred, noting that the <br />one blockage was a result of apparent vandalism <br />with a broom handle being somehow put into <br />the sewer system. <br /> <br />Mr. Perron stated it was not his fault that <br />the broom handle caused the back-up and that <br />he felt he should somehow be compensated for <br />his damages. <br /> <br />Councilmember Schmidt stated that he felt <br />that in the future when reviewing insurance <br />company quotes, the City should not only look at what <br />premiums would be, but also how the various <br />insurance carriers would handle claims. <br /> <br />Councilmember Janecek stated that our insurance <br />coverage,if it does not, should include coverage <br />for vandalism. <br /> <br />Mayor Harcus stated that he felt staff should <br />be directed to look into installiny a check valve <br />to prevent this problem from happening. <br /> <br />Councilmember Blomquist stated that the Council <br />should look at what the past practice of Councils <br />has been in a similar situation, and what the <br />implications would be if the Council deviated <br />from that past policy direction. <br /> <br />Motion by Harcus, seconded by Janecek to <br />direct staff to inspect the sewer main more <br />frequently and to install the metal straps <br />over the manhole cover pick-holes and to <br />televise the sewer main as is practical. <br />Further that staff be directed to consult with <br />the City's insurance company to determine the <br />discrepency in handling the first claim versus <br />the second claim and also to direct staff to <br />investigate the cost of installing a check valve <br />into the sewer line to prevent the problem. <br />Lastly, to direct staff to study and report <br />on what the impacts to the City would be in <br />regard to past and future policy decisions should <br />the check valve be installed. <br />4 ayes - 0 nayes - motion carried <br /> <br />-3- <br />
