<br />I <br /> <br />II <br /> <br />\1 <br /> <br />City of New Brighton <br />October 12, 1982 <br /> <br />Council Business <br />Mayor Harcus stated that he would prefer to <br />see staff and the EQC continue their study <br />regarding waste management working with <br />City residents and existing City haulers. <br /> <br />Councilmember Blomquist stated that the <br />EQC should be commended for the time, <br />effort and thoroughness of their study <br />regarding contract hauling. Councilmember <br />Blomquist also stated that he agreed that <br />he would like to see the EQC and residents <br />continue discussions regarding alternatives <br />for solid waste management. <br /> <br />Mr. Robert Christen, Christen Trucking, <br />stated that as a representative of the City <br />haulers that they would welcome the opportunity <br />to work with the EQC and City Council in studying <br />the alternatives in regard to solid waste management <br />and that they would just request that they be kept <br />informed as to any future meetings. <br /> <br />Councilmember Schmidt indicated that he favored <br />the development of a solid waste management program <br />and indicated that while the opportunity for contract <br />hauling at this time is not the best, the issue <br />should not be tabled indefinitely. <br /> <br />Councilmember Janecek stated that she agreed that <br />it was necessary to review alternatives in regard <br />to landfill abatement but that contract hauling at <br />this point in time was not a solution to landfill <br />abatement. Councilmember Janecek stated thnt the <br />idea of contract hauling may be more viable when <br />and if a resource recovery plant is constructed <br />within the area. <br /> <br />Judy Hove, representing the League of Women Voters, <br />presented the City Council with the League's position <br />statement regarding solid waste management. <br /> <br />Mayor Harcus directed receipt of the League of <br />Women Voter's position statement. <br /> <br />Motion by Harcus, seconded by Benke to table the <br />issue of contract hauling and to direct staff, <br />the EQC and citizens to study and review alternatives <br />regarding a solid waste management program to meet <br />the goals contained in the Ramsey County solid waste <br />management plan with the staff and EQC report to be <br />received by April 12, 1983. <br />5 ayes - 0 nayes - motion carried <br /> <br />-2- <br /> <br />EQC - Contract <br />Hauling <br />Report No. 82-249 <br />
