Holmes, Jr., Chief of Police <br /> <br />RE: <br /> <br />Dead End - Mississippi Street <br /> <br />From the time ~lississippi Street was constructed and the homes built, <br />the police have had problems with parkers. <br /> <br />Since the time of the construction, to my knowledge, three (3) families <br />have lived in the home at the end of Mississippi Street (1187 Mississippi <br />Street). <br /> <br />The police have received complaints of parkers and people being dropped off <br />to go to a beer party (east on Minnesota Transfer railroad tracks to the <br />Joe Hipp farm property). As I recall, all complaints were from the residents <br />of 1187 Mississippi Street. ~fust of this activity takes place during the <br />fall - during and after the Irondale High School activities. <br /> <br />The squads are instructed to give extra patrol to the area and any cars <br />parked with people in them are asked to move on. During Irondale High School <br />activities, the squads are to check the area more frequently. <br /> <br />We do have problems with the beer parties because we have only one entrance, <br />where the kids walk in from different areas. The only way the police have to <br />drive in is from Old Highway 8 and Butcher's Spur and sometimes that is <br />impossible depending on the condition of the road. The area used is about <br />three (3) blocks from the end of Mississippi Street. It is too risky for the <br />officers to walk the railroad tracks. <br /> <br />Several years ago, a request was put in for a large street light besides the <br />ornamental on the south side of Mississippi Street. This light was denied by <br />the City Council.
