Alan De Vries Home
at 1975 Long Lake Road
New Brighton, Minn. 55112

Dear Les,

On Saturday, April 12, 1980, Al DeVries called me with a Sewer back up problem
on a house that I just completed building and delivered to him on February 22, 1980.

He informed me that since they had been living in the house, whenever they had
a heavy water usage, such as on wash day, there would be some backing up in the
floor drains in the basement, that would go back down when the water wasn't
used. So, we tried blowing it out with hoses extended through the cleanout
and a fifty foot snake that I had "With no success. I had originally installed
about seventy feet of Sewer pipe from the house: to the riser in the boulevard.
Called Roto Rooter, they came out and ran into a blockage at one-hundred eight
feet from inside of the house. It was roots that came back on the cutters.
After trying for about one-half hour to get through with a regular sized cutter,
he put on a small cutter and made it through the blockage. He, again, put on
the 4"..:..6" cutters and was unable to get through the blockage. This blockage
must be at about the point the reser connects at the main, so, whether there
is a broken piece of clay pipe at that point or not, we could not determine
for sure.

I am enclosing a copy of the bill paid by Mr. DeVries to Rota Rooter in the
amount of $48.00 and, in as much as, this is in the riser under the street that
the City installed, I believe it should be their responsibility to pay, together
with any necessary work that remains to correct the problem.

Any question, please contart me.

Sincerely,

!2ffJo#-

JPC : lk
Enclosure
Copy to Mr. R.
