Of Report Number 09-120
Jl Agenda Section VI -5
IVNCouncil Meeting Date May 12, 2009
the city that works for you
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: QUOTES FOR SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM TELEVISING
DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: Grant Wyffels — Director of Public Works &M
CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL:
No comments to supplement this report SRJ Comments attached
Recommendation:
To authorize and approve the low quotation from Pipe Services of $0.38 per foot for the 2009
Sanitary Sewer televising inspections.
Legislative History:
None
Financial Impact:
Pipe Services has the low quotation in an amount of $38,000. This work was budgeted for in 2009.
Explanation:
The purpose of this item is to obtain Council approval of a quotation from Pipe Services for sanitary
sewer televising inspections. We annually contract for television inspection on a portion of our
sanitary sewer system each year. We are proposing to televise approximately 100,000 feet of
sanitary sewer in 2009.
The following quotations for the televising inspections were received:
The tied bid was determined by a coin toss on Monday, 5/4/09 — won by Pipe Services, Dave Olson,
Kim Otis, Ron Fenney from Visu-Sewer, and Kerry Blaisdell from Pipe Services were present.
The sanitary sewer televising is an annual ongoing program to find and correct potential problems;
such as, broken tile and root growth that can cause sewer backups if gone undetected and
groundwater infiltration that can result in high Metropolitan sewer charges.
Funding:
This work will be funded from the sewer budget for the maintenance of equipment, buildings,
grounds, and emergency repairs for the sanitary sewer system.
0
01
V PoR
Dave lson
Public Works S perintendent
is\COUNCIL\REPORTS\2009\public Warks\5.12-09 2009 Televising Council Repon-doe
TV Inspection
Cost based on
Quote per foot
100,000 feet
Duke's Root Control
No bid returned
Hydro Vac Inc
$0.449
$44,900
Infratech Technologies, Inc
$0.450
$45,000
Midwest Trenchless Technologies
$0.670
$67,000
Pipe Services Corporation
$0.380
$38,000
Visu-Sewer Clean & Seal, Inc
$0.380
$38,000
The tied bid was determined by a coin toss on Monday, 5/4/09 — won by Pipe Services, Dave Olson,
Kim Otis, Ron Fenney from Visu-Sewer, and Kerry Blaisdell from Pipe Services were present.
The sanitary sewer televising is an annual ongoing program to find and correct potential problems;
such as, broken tile and root growth that can cause sewer backups if gone undetected and
groundwater infiltration that can result in high Metropolitan sewer charges.
Funding:
This work will be funded from the sewer budget for the maintenance of equipment, buildings,
grounds, and emergency repairs for the sanitary sewer system.
0
01
V PoR
Dave lson
Public Works S perintendent
is\COUNCIL\REPORTS\2009\public Warks\5.12-09 2009 Televising Council Repon-doe
