Johnson, Assistant to the City Managers <br />Sandy Breuer, Director of Parks and Recreation <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this re ort $ Comments attached <br />Recommendation: <br />City Council approval of a resolution modifying the 2009 seasonal compensation plan. <br />Legislative History: <br />Effective July 24th, the Federal Government is changing the minimum wage from $6.55 (2008) <br />to $7.25 per the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). <br />Financial Impact: <br />Seasonal employee compensation is reflected in the 2009 budget. <br />Explanation: <br />Effective July 24th, the minimum wage identified under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) of <br />1983 is being modified by the Federal Government from $6.55 per hour (2008) to $7.25 per hour <br />(2009). <br />The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) establishes standards for minimum wages, overtime pay, <br />recordkeeping, and child labor. These standards affect more than 100 million workers, both <br />full-time and part-time, in the private and public sectors. <br />The City of New Brighton has one seasonal pay grade that is being affected by this mandated <br />wage change. The City currently pays seasonal employees a training wage of $7.00 per hour. <br />Effective July 24`h, this wage must be changed from $7.00 per hour to $7.25 per hour. <br />For your review, City staff has attached an updated copy of the 2009 Seasonal Employee <br />Compensation Plan with the new pay rate for the "Training Wage" position. <br />the City Manager <br />1-\COUNCIL\REPORTS\2009\Admin\AMEND2009 Budget Scasonai Compensation.doc <br />
