Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chair Frischman II. Roll Call Present: Commissioners, Frischman, Harreld, Heinrich, Meyer, Norton, Samuelson, Trevorrow, Council Liaison Mary Burg, Sandy Breuer, Director of Parks and Recreation and Jodelle Olson, Office Assistant Absent: None Also Present: Patrice Atkinson, Recreation Supervisor; Brad Martens, Recreation Supervisor; and Jason West, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation III. Minutes of March 4, 2009 MOTION BY SAMUELSON, SECOND BY HEINRICH, TO APPROVE THE MARCH 4, 2009 MINUTES AS SUBMITTED. MOTION CARRIED. IV. Trails Committee Update — Adam Parker; Chair Adam Parker stated they had a large number of people at tonight's meeting. Items discussed were the Hwy 96/Hwy 10 expansion; making; sure the trail needs for that project are met. The Safe Routes to Schools issue was discussed, particularly at 694 & Silver Lake Road to have better access for bike and pedestrian movement. Within the next month we will be collaborating with the City of Arden Hills by meeting with their Trails Committee. Hoping to have more trail connections and trail improvements with these two committees. By the next meeting we will have options for trail locations at the Hwy 96/Old Hwy 8 area. The Trails Committee will be snaking its recommendations. There are many opportunities for citizens to have input on these decisions. The next meeting is May 6th at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Come have your voice be heard. Parker also mentioned there is a railroad bridge just north of 694 that crosses 35W. MNDOT plans to have this railroad bridge removed in 2009. This increases the need to have an access from New Brighton to the east metro area. V. Correspondence A. Council Report — Council Member Mary Burg Council member Burg reported the following: • The City hired someone to lobby and help get stimulus money. • Mayor spent hours with legislative leaders trying to obtain financial help with NWQ cleanup. • The railroad "Y" on the south side of E2 is finally complete. City Attorney commented that it has been the most complicated process he has ever worked through. This took years to finally complete. • The new Post Office retail had a grand opening. • Last week there was a presentation to Council on the Hwy 96/Old Hwy 8 interchange. It was a preliminary meeting on how to make changes for a smoother traffic flow in that area. • There is a blood drive April 8`h, 1-6:30 p.m.
