o Council passed two different obligation bonds; a 2008 Street Reconstruction Bond <br />and a 1997 General Obligation Bond. These two bonds were refinanced by the City to <br />take advantage of lower interest rates. <br />o The kitchen addition at Brightondale was approved. <br />o Rep. McCollum has submitted funding requests for two New Brighton projects; <br />$800,000 for a bike/pedestrian bridge connecting NWQ to Long Lake Regional Park <br />and $2.4 million for replacement of the Old Highway 8 bridge over I694. <br />n Sen. Klobuchar has submitted funding requests for three New Brighton projects; $1 <br />million for additional dump removal on the east side of the NWQ; $1 million for soil <br />remediation for the former NW Refinery site and $1 million for transportation <br />improvements for the roads on the east side of the NWQ. <br />Old Business <br />Silver Lake Flats, aka Timber Crest <br />Silver Lake Flats is still on a provisional license; however, calls are lower. <br />New Business <br />Yellow Ribbon Communities <br />The Commission discussed the Yellow Ribbon Communities brochure. This program is <br />designed to have volunteers in the community coordinate assistance and support for <br />• military families and veterans. We will be one of the 15 training locations. Currently, <br />there are very few metro communities participating in this program; there are more out <br />state Yellow Ribbon Communities. <br />After discussion, the Commissioners will think about this program and we will put this <br />on the next meeting agenda. <br />Heart Safe Communities <br />Director Jacobson reported that the Heart Safe Community designation previously <br />thought to be available really wasn't. Allina is working on this now and has asked New <br />Brighton to he the first community to apply for this designation. Officer McNeely is <br />working on a draft application. The Public Safety Commission would have an oversight <br />advisory role. <br />This item will be put on next month's agenda also. <br />Other <br />Commissioner Woods inquired if any personnel from our Public Safety Department were <br />involved with the Metro Gang Strike Force. Director Jacobson verified that we do not <br />have any personnel working with the Metro Gang Strike Force; their offices are located <br />in New Brighton. This office will be shut down until July 1 si <br />
