• Department Reports <br />Human Rights <br />Nothing to report. <br />Allina Medical <br />Nothing to report. <br />Volunteers in Public Safety VIPS <br />Commissioner Woods reported the following: <br />• The VIPS will be helping at the New Brighton Triathlon in June. The VIPS support <br />for this event will result in a $500 donation to Project Lifesaver. <br />n The next blood drive is scheduled for June 16`x' <br />• VIPS will be serving the Fire Department dinners in July and August. <br />o VIPS will work with New Brighton Police Reserves during Stockyard Days. <br />o CERT refreshers continue to be held right after the VIPS monthly meeting. <br />p Graffiti seems to be better controlled. This is due to all the hard work by VIPS <br />members Ray Tandeski and Long Nguyen. <br />Public Safe / Homeland Security Update <br />SDirector Jacobson reported the following: <br />o At the June PSC meeting, an attorney from the Ramsey County Attorney's office will <br />be giving a presentation regarding the juvenile system. <br />o Jeff Budnick was named the Fire Fighter of the Year for 2008. <br />n Council heard a presentation last night regarding the skate park at Freedom Park. We <br />will continue to work on this issue. <br />o Officer Troy Hyland is now in Iraq. We will be sending boxes to him periodically so <br />if anyone would like to donate any personal hygiene items, books, games, etc., please <br />drop theinoff at the department. <br />o Officer Singer, Officer Layton and. Director Jacobson ran the Stillwater Marathon. <br />Department employees have now run a total of 70 marathons! <br />Council Liaison <br />Council Report ' <br />Mayor Larson noted the following items: <br />a The skate park issue at Freedom Park will be handled using the SARA approach; <br />Scanning, Analyzing, Response and Assessment. A status report will be presented to <br />Council in August. Council will look at this issue again in November. Director <br />Jacobson noted that with using the SARA approach, we may see an increase in calls <br />during this time but will result in a lower crime rate. <br />0 <br />
