Environmental Issues and Resident Requests — site visits and phone calls by residents <br />and homeowners associations. <br />-Annually 1,600-2,000 resident inquires and requests for visits. <br />Oversight of Contractor — City staff would need to oversee contractor. <br />Seasonal Forestry Staff — need for person to hire, train, oversee and direct work tasks of <br />seasonal staff. <br />- Sidewalk, trails and alley clearing to accommodate users & city vehicles <br />(snowplows). <br />- Intersections and rail crossing trimming to accommodate sight lines <br />(public safety). <br />- Streetscape maintenance oversight. <br />Volunteer Efforts — Arbor Day, resident tree sale and buckthorn control would need to <br />be reviewed. <br />Tree Planting — 100-200 trees planted annually by City Forester. Estimated cost for a <br />contractor: $18,000 ($120/per tree x 150). <br />Joint Powers Agreement — potential loss of long last mutually shared position (29 <br />years). <br />- Loss of revenue ($24,000) from the shared position. <br />Grants Awarded — over 25 years, New Brighton has received 21 forestry related grants; <br />Tree City USA designation was a top criterion for grants. <br />- New Brighton has been a Tree City USA for 28 years. Status could be <br />altered if standards are not maintained; potentially losing grant <br />opportunities for Emerald Ash Borer. <br />Deputy Director <br />Deputy Director Ellickson's current supervisory duties include the direct supervision <br />of 10 staff members to include: <br />Supervision of four Sergeants <br />Supervision of three Detectives <br />Supervision of three School Resource Officers <br />Deputy Director Ellickson also has oversight/day to day oversight of the following <br />task/duties: <br />+ Assists in developing the annual Public Safety budget <br />Is the primary contact for Public Safety related Public Information inquires to <br />include interviews and press releases <br />ti:\Dean\Budgct 2010 August 25 2009 Discussion.doc <br />
