. 1r,imEn <br />the city tor mu <br />NEW BRIGHTON PARKS, RECREATION, AND ENVIRONMENTAL <br />COMMISSION <br />MINUTES <br />AUGUST 5, 2009 <br />(Minutes in their entirety are kept on DVD at City Hall) <br />I. <br />Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chair Frischman <br />II. <br />Roll Call <br />Present: Commissioners Frischman, Harreld, Heinrich, Meyer, Norton, Samuelson, <br />Council Liaison Burg, Director of Parks and Recreation Breuer <br />Also Present: Trevor Hamdorf, Public Safety Officer <br />Absent: Commissioner Trevorrow <br />III. <br />Minutes of May 6, 2009 <br />MOTION BY HEINRICH, SECONDED BY NORTON, TO APPROVE. THE JUNE 3, <br />2009 MINUTES WITH THE MEETING TIME CHANGED TO 5:30 P.M.UNDER <br />ITEM IV. "TRAIL COMMITTEE UPDATE". MOTION CARRIED. <br />IV. <br />Trails Committee Update — Adam Parker; Chair <br />Adam Parker stated they did an analysis. A speed cart was placed along Long Lake Road. <br />They took readings before the speed cart was placed and after. It did help to keep speed <br />down. We also talked about advertising and marketing. We may possibly do a bike rally <br />next year. We were able to see the plans for the trail expansion on Old Hwy 8. The next <br />meeting will be September 2, 2009 at 5:30 p.m Encourage anyone in New Brighton to <br />attend. <br />Heinrich asked about the Safe Routes to Schools bridge upgrade on Silver Lake Road. <br />Parker stated Brad Martens would have any update on that. <br />Frischman stated it was mentioned that the Trails Committee is thinking of having a bike <br />rally in conjunction with Stock Yard Days. There is a running event that perhaps we can <br />highlight some of our biking trails in New Brighton by hosting a bike event. Not <br />necessarily a bike race but something that is more family-oriented. Everyone seems to be <br />stretched with jobs, volunteer activities and children's activities. If anyone out there has <br />this kind of experience and would be willing to help us out, we would certainly love to <br />hear from them. Parker stated it will be discussed at the next meeting. <br />V. <br />Skate Park Update — Youth Representative <br />Trevor Hamdorf , Public Safety Officer, stated Mark Gafken took the summer off to do <br />professional skateboarding. Lucas stepped forward and is willing to take Mark's place as <br />coordinator. Lucas and Tyler are both working this evening. Trevor showed a power <br />point of skateboard progress. The goal is to have zero calls to Freedom Park. <br />Maintenance of equipment is something Chris Wolla will try to keep up on, to prolong <br />the life of the equipment. Continue to involve residents. We can be more pro -active with <br />residents; working toward that. We want to maintain the community involvement level in <br />this process. We have about 15 skateboard users involved. We want that to continue. It <br />will be a challenge to keep their interest in this park for both this year and next year. We <br />
