•
Page 2
are making progress. Accomplishments are: cleaner park, youth empowerment and
involvement, equipment painted, lines painted on basketball court, Star Tribune and New
Brighton Bulletin Articles, park rules, development of trespass guidelines, reduced
graffiti, picnic table back and bike rack back. Calls for service_ 2007-33 calls, 2008-43
calls, down to 20 in 2009. It is better today than last year at this time. Hamdorf would
like to have a little more involvement with the residents. He would like to get feedback
from them. He stated comments received at National Night out were positive. Hamdorf
stated he only knows a few troublemakers from Freedom that moved to another park, but
that has already been taken care of We are trespassing individuals from the parks for
offenses and it appears to be effective.
Frischman stated we have been incredibly impressed with the youth involvement and
how they have helped to make a better environment. Also thanked Trevor Hamdorf for
his involvement.
V. Correspondence
A. Council Report — Council Member Mary Burg
Burg thanked Trevor for the presentation and commented that it is really
good news to hear.
City Council is starting on budget considerations which will continue for
the next several months.
Burg expressed concern about cutting Park and Rec programs, i.e. senior
hiking. Shedoes not want to have programming negatively impacted.
Parks and Ree programming is not always seen as an essential service.
Burg heard a lot of positive comments at National Night Out about living
in New Brighton. Some of the comments had to do with trails, and that
people value our programs.
We are looking for applications for the Economic Development
Commission which is being reorganized. There are 9 openings. You can
be a resident or business owner in our community. We have one position
on our Planning Commission and a task force to focus on our temporary
sign regulations.
Had about 142 parties signed up for National Night Out. That speaks
volumes of our community of how neighborhoods get together. Stockyard
Days events start this week and through the weekend.
Harreld asked what is the best way for people to stay informed through the
budget process? Burg stated the work sessions are now being video taped
right before the scheduled Council meeting. You can find them online. If
you have input or concern, e-mail to the Council is the best way to get that
across to the Council. Appreciate any input.
