Page 3 Harreld stated the Commission would like to stay informed and help out if there is anything they can do. Harreld said that parks are on people's mind and it will be the first thing they notice if we start to lose it. Burg stated that parks are an economic development tool. She does not think people actually recognize how important that is. We all want our taxes to be as low as they can. If we start diminishing the good things of this community (parks and trails), it can have an impact on economic development. We have to have things to offer businesses as they contemplate coming into New Brighton. Meyer commented that work sessions are on channel 16. Neighborhood National Night Out party numbers at 142. City officials attend each of these parties. Wondering if Commission members could help out by attending these some of the parties? Burg stated next year we will have to remember to get an invitation out to all the Commissions to attend. Frischman thanked Burg for her presence and involvement at the Parks, is Recreation and Environmental Commission meetings. VI. Public Hearing A. Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan — Kerry Thorne Kerry Thorne gave her presentation regarding the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan. Main areas of the presentation were: • Impaired US Waters • Listing Water Review Process • MPCA Inspections • 2009 Impaired Waters Estimate • Impairments within 5 miles of New Brighton « Sources of impairments • New Brighton's Activities • Type of Impairments New Brighton storm sewer system Frischman asked where residents can get more information. Thorne stated most of the information she has collected is from the Rice Creek Watershed District's website. The DNR also has some information and that would include Jones Lake, Pike Lake and Long Lake. Norton asked what the most important thing that the City of New Brighton can do to improve water quality.
