Page 3 <br />Harreld stated the Commission would like to stay informed and help out if <br />there is anything they can do. <br />Harreld said that parks are on people's mind and it will be the first thing <br />they notice if we start to lose it. <br />Burg stated that parks are an economic development tool. She does not <br />think people actually recognize how important that is. We all want our <br />taxes to be as low as they can. If we start diminishing the good things of <br />this community (parks and trails), it can have an impact on economic <br />development. We have to have things to offer businesses as they <br />contemplate coming into New Brighton. <br />Meyer commented that work sessions are on channel 16. Neighborhood <br />National Night Out party numbers at 142. City officials attend each of <br />these parties. Wondering if Commission members could help out by <br />attending these some of the parties? <br />Burg stated next year we will have to remember to get an invitation out to <br />all the Commissions to attend. <br />Frischman thanked Burg for her presence and involvement at the Parks, <br />is Recreation and Environmental Commission meetings. <br />VI. Public Hearing <br />A. Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan — Kerry Thorne <br />Kerry Thorne gave her presentation regarding the Storm Water Pollution <br />Prevention Plan. Main areas of the presentation were: <br />• Impaired US Waters <br />• Listing Water Review Process <br />• MPCA Inspections <br />• 2009 Impaired Waters Estimate <br />• Impairments within 5 miles of New Brighton <br />« Sources of impairments <br />• New Brighton's Activities <br />• Type of Impairments New Brighton storm sewer system <br />Frischman asked where residents can get more information. <br />Thorne stated most of the information she has collected is from the Rice Creek <br />Watershed District's website. The DNR also has some information and that would <br />include Jones Lake, Pike Lake and Long Lake. <br />Norton asked what the most important thing that the City of New Brighton can do <br />to improve water quality. <br />
