Consideration of Project 09-9, Old Highway Watermain Upgrade and Approval of plans and
Spec's and Authorization to Advertise for Bids. Report No. 09-197.
Director of Public Works Grant Wyffels introduced Mark Kasma representing Bolton & Me* Inc.
Director Wyffels explained currently, the only watermain servicing the entire NE portion of the
City is an 8 -inch cast iron watermain. Given our current system demand from the industrial
park located north of Highway 96, a new hotel at Highway 96 opening this December, and the
future water demand of the Northwest Quadrant area, it is strongly recommended the 8 -inch
pipe be upgraded to a 12 -inch pipe. As part of the Old Highway 8 Reconstruction project, a
12 -inch watermain was constructed from 1-694 and extended past the Long Lake Regional
Park entrance. This project will connect to the new 12 -inch near the park entrance and 2,800
linear feet of watermain will be directionally drilled along the west side of Old Highway 8 to
south of Applewood Point just north of Highway 96. The new 127 unit hotel currently under
construction and scheduled to open this December, will not be put out of service by
constructing this watermain in the fall of 2009. The remainder of the loop will be coordinated
with future construction projects.
Also, included in this project is the construction of an access trail to the existing sanitary
sewer. Councilmember Burg questioned if the proposed trail was shared with the Trails
Committee. Director Wyffels reported the trail Committee was very pleased with the
proposal. The time frame was reviewed, completion would be expected October 30, 2009.
Motion by Councilmember Burg, seconded by Councilmember Bauman to approve project 09-9.
5 Ayes, 0 Nays, Motion Carried
09 Page 3 of 4
the State of Minnesok
Report No. 09-193.
Resolution No 09.045.
7.
