Johnson, Assistant to the City Mana er5 <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this report 4Comments attached <br />At the September 22, 2009 Worksession meeting; Council discussed the following topic: <br />The Risdall Marketing Group provided the City Council with an overview of the naming and <br />rebranding study that is being conducted for the Northwest Quadrant Project (NWQ). Risdall <br />Marketing has met with eight potential developers to obtain their perspective of the project. <br />Risdall Marketing will also be scheduling meetings with New Brighton commission members <br />and residents to obtain to discuss their personal views of the NWQ project. <br />During the meeting, Risdall Marketing conducted a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, <br />Opportunities, and Threats) exercise with the City Council. The following is an overview of the <br />ideas that were brought forth during the SWOT exercise: <br />Strengths: <br />Location of the NWQ Project <br />• ➢ Proximity to Downtown Minneapolis and St, Paul <br />Proximity to a Number of Large Company Headquarters <br />Access to Long Lake Regional Park <br />Y Utilities are Currently Located in the NWQ <br />Y Low Crime Rates <br />Excellent School Systems (Mounds View School District and St. Anthony School <br />District) <br />Convenient Location to Local Colleges and Universities <br />Weaknesses: <br />Environmental Concerns in Parcel B <br />Y Freeway Access to the NWQ <br />5= Methane Venting and Sealing <br />Lack of Marketing of the Project Site <br />Housing Limitations in the Development <br />Y Clean-up of the NWQ is not complete <br />Opportunities: <br />The City has the Ability to Financially Wait for the Right Development Project <br />Y Most of the Land is Developable at this Time <br />The Ability to Create a Class A Project <br />Utilize API as a Reference to Attract Other Potential Developers <br />Threats: <br />Current Economy <br />Y Brownfield Clean-up <br />Y Political Environment <br />I \COUNCIL\REPORTS\2009\Admin\Workse5sion Summary Reports\NWQ Marketing Discussion -October I3.2009.doc <br />
