-4 - Burg stated the Council is still in the budget process for next year. The conversation was that we would be hiring a forester for April 1, 2010. We would start looking the beginning of the year. Everything is on the table right now, • including whether this would continue to be a shared position with Mounds View. Frischman inquired about the status of the Safe Routes to Schools grant. Part of that money was allocated toward trail improvement in Hansen Park. Council recommended that more estimates be received regarding placement of the trail. Frischman is concerned that we are running out of time. Breuer stated it was her understanding that the grant funds run out June of 2010. Grant Wyffels, Public Works Director seems to believe there is fluidness with that date. Our hold up right now is MNDOT. This trail in Hansen will be attached to the bridge work being done on Silver Lake Road. To get a better price, you want to bid the project as one. We are supposed to get that info yet this winter. It does slow us down because we can't do anything with the trail until spring. Frischman stated it would be a sad day if the grant money was lost with so much staff time being spent on this project. Breuer stated she would do some follow-up with our Public Works Director to see if he has more information on this. She will do an e-mail to the Commission with her findings. VII. Public Hearing A. Bench Quotes In 2007 New Brighton applied to be a pilot program for Active Living Ramsey County, The City received 7 benches between the Family Service Center and Main Street Village installed at no cost to us. Part of our goal with the bench program was to continue with its success in the Northwest Quadrant. There will be three more benches installed in South Park in the Northwest Quadrant. The City is requesting from Ramsey County up to $600 per bench of grant money to go toward the benches and pavers. Next to the benches are pavers with quotes on them. The quotes are to be timely. Assuming we will get the grant, she is asking the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission to approve the three quotes suggested so the pavers can be ordered. MOTION BY HARRELD, SECONDED BY SAMUELSON, TO APPROVE THE 3 QUOTES FOR THE PAVERS TO BE USED BESIDE THE BENCHES TO BE PLACED AT THE NORTHWEST QUADRANT SOUTH PARK. MOTION CARRIED. B.
