-7-
• Harreld requested an e-mail update regarding the Safe Routes to School project.
Frischman expressed that it was imperative that we do not lose this grant money
to another entity because of all the work that has gone into this.
Frischman said congratulations to Char Samuelson who was appointed as a new
Council member. We now lose a Parks, Recreation and Environmental
Commission member.
Samuelson stated it has been a pleasure. She learned a lot.
Frischman inquired as to how long it would take to get another Commissioner on
board?
Breuer stated it will depend on how the Council wants to handle it. She does not
believe there will be a new Commissioner by January. They will probably have
the new Council review applications for the new Commission openings. They
could appoint just Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission and that
person may then serve for two months, because Char's position was up March 31,
2010. They may allow the person to do a 2 year and two month term, or they may
just wait until March. We could be down for the months of January, February and
• March.
B. Department Happenings / upcoming events
Breuer went through the Department Happenings presentation.
Breuer commented that our 15`h Anniversary is coming up November 14`h at the
FSC from 9am — 2pm. Admission to the Eagles Nest is only $2.50. Several free
demo fitness classes will be available; Belly Dancing, Tai Chi, Boot Camp, Turbo
Kick, Pilates. There will also be an inflatable and ice cream, cake and cookies.
There will be discounts on memberships and there will be prizes.
Breuer said the Giving Tree (at the FSC) is new to us this year. There are paper
ornament tags on the tree with a senior name and gift idea on it. You pick up a gift
or gifts for that person and drop off your unwrapped gift at the FSC with the tag
attached and receipt (if the item needs to be exchanged). This is a new project
with an agency called "Home Instead". Next year we may be able to supply names
to them with Seniors from New Brighton.
Breuer also noted that our Brochure for November through March just went out.
Trevorrow inquired if the benches we have are all uniform. Breuer stated they
were. They will match the existing benches we have. Trevorrow was wondering if
• a citizen could sponsor a bench. Breuer stated that citizens can sponsor a bench.
Trevorrow was thinking of bench for Ranger Rick (Wriskey). Breuer stated that
there was a tree donated for Ranger Rick. Breuer stated we will put in a tree for
Rick at Hansen Park for Arbor Day, 2010.
